I believe emotional pain dwells within the brain, nervous system, and the body so elements of effective treatment must include them as well. I don't think any single approach to therapy will be enough so I use my understanding of several ways of addressing issues to aid in collaborating with clients to best address their needs and aspirations.
What we know and understand about the nervous system also plays a significant part in how couples relate. As a Level 2 PACT therapist, I work with couples on how to communicate effectively, how to recognize each other’s cues and states, and how to foster a safe, supportive dynamic that’s not fueled by fear and guilt.
My approach is equal parts compassion, empathy, and confidence. Compassion for the emotional pain endured; empathy for the difficult circumstances faced amid life's disorienting sea-changes; confidence in clients' ability to refocus, regroup, and fight to live their best lives. Expect to be challenged. I treat all clients with respect tempered with honesty neatly wrapped in kindness with a bit of dry humor.
